Kansai includes Kyoto

In this region there are many similar sites in the sub regions of Kyoto, Osaka, Lake Biwa-ko, Nara and Wakayama-ken. All these areas have Temples and shrines that are worth visiting, especially Kyoto which has over 2000 temples.

There are also many museums and parks within these areas that tourists may find interesting. The area of Kyoto also has Nijo-jo Castle and Kyoto Imperial Palace Park, Osaka has a very good nightlife for the younger generation, Lake Biwa-ko has some impressive markets, Nara has great history including the fact it was Japans first traditional capital, and Wakayama-ken has a few national parks that have some attractive natural attractions like hot springs and hiking tracks.
